February Newsletter Update
Welcome to my monthly update for the residents and communities of the Stoneygate Neighbourhood Policing Area Spinney Hill. This newsletter will be circulated on a regular basis and will provide an insight into what is happening at the NPA.
– PCSO 6861 Sam Trantom
Particular areas of concern include St James Road and its connected to local hostels. Evington Rd (Cleanliness, fly tipping, bin misuse, parking, bus stop CCTV), patch walks with multi-agencies, patrols, and Cllr meetings and local crime summit.
Drug dealing (South Highfields including Lincoln Street, Conduit Street, College St, Upper Tichborne Street)
Road Safety. In particular, zig zag parking on Evington Road, junction blocking off this main strip, and inconsiderate parking around schools
Community Update – St James RoadFollowing our previous updates regarding St James Road, officers have now completed the consultation phase with local residents. We are pleased to report that all residents were in favour of having a pod camera installed in the area. The proposal was subsequently taken to our monthly Joint Action Group (JAG) meeting, where it received full approval. During the meeting, the exact installation location for the camera was also agreed. We are now progressing through the final stages, which include arranging procurement of the camera and completing the remaining paperwork. Our aim is to ensure the camera is purchased before the end of the financial year, allowing the funding allocated by local councillors to be used within the ward as intended. In the meantime, officers continue to carry out high-visibility patrols in the area and maintain ongoing engagement with local hostels. This work remains important to support all stakeholders and strengthen our community relationships. We will provide further updates as the project moves into installation.
Community Update – Partnership Work & Community IntelligenceOfficers are continuing to work closely with the Dawn Centre to strengthen partnership working around drug use both on-site and in the surrounding areas. By developing a stronger relationship with staff at the hostel, we aim to support one another in addressing issues that affect the wider community and ensure a coordinated approach to problem solving. We would like to thank residents for the valuable information you continue to share with us. Your reports play a vital role in helping officers progress investigations and, where appropriate, seek enforcement action such as warrants through the courts. While officers can apply for warrants based on police intelligence alone, applications are always strengthened when we can include local residents’ observations. You live in the community every day, and often see things that we may not. Your ongoing support and willingness to report concerns make a real difference. Please continue to share information with us so we can take the right action to keep the area safe.
Community Update – Parking & Road Safety Around Evington RoadOfficers continue to focus on tackling nuisance driving and unsafe parking in and around the Evington Road area. Over the past month, several Traffic Offence Reports have been issued to drivers parking on the zig‑zag lines on Evington Road. Unfortunately, we are finding that as soon as one vehicle is moved on, another quickly takes its place. We are also seeing increasing issues on the roads surrounding the residents’ parking scheme. Many drivers appear to be avoiding purchasing a permit by parking on corners or along double yellow lines. While it is not an offence to park near your home without a permit, it is an offence to obstruct the road, park on junctions, or ignore double yellow line restrictions. In the last five days alone, officers have issued five Fixed Penalty Notices to vehicles blocking the same junction, causing difficulties for other road users attempting to navigate the area safely. We would like to thank local residents who continue to report concerns to us. Over recent months we received multiple reports regarding an abandoned Land Rover Discovery on Oakfield Road. This vehicle has now been recovered as it was no longer taxed, freeing up an additional space for legitimate residential parking. We appreciate the community’s ongoing support. Please continue to report nuisance parking or abandoned vehicles so we can take action.
